Overview of Thai clearance process
1. File an Import Declaration
Commence the Import Declaration Process: Initiate the import clearance procedure by filing an Import Declaration, which can be submitted either manually using Customs Form 99 or 99/1, or electronically through the EDI system.
2. Provide supporting official documents
-
Document specifying cargo (air waybill for air freight or bill of lading for sea freight)
-
Three duplicates of the invoice
-
Inventory of packaged items
-
Proof of insurance as indicated on the invoice
-
Release form (Customs Form 100/1 or 469)
-
Foreign transaction report if the import value surpasses 500,000 Baht
-
Import license (when necessary)
-
Certificates of Origin (if applicable)
-
Any other pertinent documents like product catalogs and specifications, etc.
3. Check the Declaration and other Documents
The third phase involves presenting the Import Declaration and its accompanying documents for thorough inspection by Customs personnel at the designated entry port, whether using the EDI Red Line or manual system. During this stage, Customs officers will scrutinize the accuracy of the Declaration and ensure that all the necessary supporting documents are properly affixed. Furthermore, they will conduct a comprehensive review, including an examination of the Customs tariff, tax and duty calculations, as well as the valuation of the imported goods.
4. Collect Import Duties and Taxes
-
Settling payment with the Customs Department
-
Utilizing Electronic Funds Transfer through BOT's BAHTNET
-
Making electronic payments via Krung Thai Bank
-
Executing Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) via the EDI system
5. Inspect and release customs cargo
Customs inspectors will proceed to examine the imported goods. It is imperative that the contents of the inspected package align with the importer's initial declaration. Once this verification process is complete, the customs inspectors will validate and record the transaction in the computer system, enabling the release of the goods to the importer.
